JOEY MOLINARO RETURNS

WEDNESDAY JULY 11TH 2012

JOEY MOLINARO – an experimental violinist who left his life as a public school music teacher to constantly tour as a DIY as fuck musician. He uses his boots to create some of the most intense foot percussion I’ve ever heard. I have been listening to his album all the time since I got it, and I tell you what that shit gets stuck in my head every time I am riding my bike really fast and makes me feel like I’m on some crazy adventure mission.

VALARIE KUEHNE – psych-metal cellist and songstress

SAGAN YOUTH – queer metal punk locals passionately screaming about homophobes and the fucked up shit going on in our city. really tight.

Small Craft Pop-Up Shop and Screen Printing Skillshare

June Small Craft flyerOn the second Saturday of every month, the Trumbullplex hosts Small Craft. It’s a pop-up  shop, offering upcycled craft supplies at pay-as-you wish prices. It’s a social event, where old and new friends meet, sip coffee, and work on creative projects. And it’s a series of skillshares, taught by some of our area’s many talented crafters.

This month, you’re invited to join Dennis and Christina Jacobs from Perfect Laughter for a talk and demonstration about screen printing. Bring a record cover to repurpose into an art print that you can take home.

Material fee is $5, and you can sign-up here. Bring along a record cover or two of your choice (preferably light in color, and one you don’t mind printing on!).

Coffee, tea, and vegan treats provided, as always.

Perfect Laughter is Dennis and Christina Jacobs, a Detroit based design, screen print, and letterpress studio.  They have been screen printing for the last five years, making art prints, gig posters, and other paper goods.

CJ Boyd, Joey Molinaro, The Wire Eyes, The Restless Days, Small Noises

CJ BOYD- Equal parts ambient and virtuosic, CJ Boyd’s bass playing builds upon a foundation of great bassists like Charles Mingus and Edgar Meyer. C.J. Boyd’s aesthetic sensibility seeks to wed minimalism with a chamber-esque maximalism. Often flowing from singular, meditative bass lines into explosive, layered, and hugely complex walls of sound, CJ masterfully orchestrates waves of bass loops coupled with Jazz-driven improvisational prowess. Utilizing only various bass instruments and some human-mouth-sounds, creating these lush arrangements is no small feat. And I tell you what, I has sex after his last show here while listening to his record and it was amazing. Definitely love makin music.

JOEY MOLINARO- NYC-based composer, violinist, and fiddler Joey Molinaro first gained attention as a member of the seven-piece experimental chamber-grind outfit “Basilica.” As an acoustic or electric solo artist, he conjures a torrent of riffs over a two-boot foot percussion flurry.

Sam McPheeters

Sam McPheeters is coming to the Trumbllplex for a special night of spoken word, and a reading from his new novel, “The Loom of Ruin”.

For 15 years, Sam McPheeters was the lead singer of Born Against, Men’s Recovery Project, and Wrangler Brutes. His columns, essays, and fiction have appeared in The Chicago Reader, Huffington Post, OC Weekly, Punk Planet, The Stranger, Vice, and The Village Voice. About “The Loom of Ruin”: The book concerns Trang Yang, the angriest man in the world, and could be described as “satire”, or “a dark comedy”, or “a story in which lots of terrible things happen to a lot of good people.”
