Nana Grizol – Nana Grizol is a queer rock band from Athens, GA. Growing from singer Theo Hilton’s earlier solo music, the band played its first show in 2007 and released its first album, Love It, Love It, in 2008. The group now has three studio albums, including 2009’s Ruth and 2017 release Ursa Minor. Over the last decade, the band’s lyrical content has shifted to more explicitly focus on queer experiences and intersections of broad political dynamics and day-to-day life. In addition to Hilton, the band currently consists of Robbee Cuchiarro, Jared Gandy, and Robbee Cucchiaro.

brianna kelly – Cincinnati-based Briana Kelly, front person of indie-shoegaze band Soften, returns to the roots of her songwriting in a new duo featuring accompaniment of the dynamic, Cincinnati-renowned electric guitarist Stephen Patota. Her evocative dark-folk songs are rich with imagery and have listeners fully engaged, anticipating each delicate shift of harmony and texture. She is currently working towards an album which highlights the intimacy of her classical guitar and voice, expected to be released in 2020.

Betsy Soukup – Betsy Soukup is a bassist, composer, and improvisor living in Detroit. She studied classical music for the majority of her life, but currently focuses her creative energy on playing freely improvised music, writing and performing her own compositions, writing poetry, and performing comedy improv.

Luckey June – Acoustic singer-songwriter with sometimes haunting, sometimes wistful compositions informed by folk and indie music as well as the queer experience. Luckey is also a member of the local riot grrrl combo Macho Detroit.

Queer Speed Bonding with Relationship Anarchy Discussions (RAD)
A queer reimagining of “speed dating” without the “dating”… dismantling assumptions of heterosexuality, amatonormativity (i.e., that you’re looking for certain kinds of relating/relationship escalator), or binary gender expectations.

Come be in community with some cute queerdos, with opportunity to write to queer incarcerated people as well.

Invite all your friends!! ♥ ♥ ♥ It’s at the trumbullplex, so if meeting new people becomes overwhelming, you can always sneak off to their zine library!

Potluck style snacks (no pressure though)! We’ll pass a hat to support the space! Let’s try to give back to an important community space, but no one will be turned away for lack of money!

The design of speed bonding includes traditional dyadic interactions (two rotating sitting lines of people and 5 minutes each; if people have mobility challenges, people can stay still), as well as opportunities for group interactions. NEW THIS TIME: Queer/Radical prompts will be at each table to give you fresh ideas! And remember, you can always duck out and make a card for an incarcerated person. Unlike traditional speed dating, we will not be collecting anyone’s info, so it’s up to you to share contact info with anyone you want to get to know further. Consent is important! Also, this is a monogamy critical space and we will not be enforcing anyone’s relationship rules.

Kath Bloom: Recognized as a “folk goddess” by the Chicago Reader and an “unappreciated ancestor” of the “freak-folk scene” by Pitchfork.com, Kath Bloom has seen her “haunting and startlingly honest ruminations on love in all its various stages and incarnations” (Austin Chronicle) covered by the likes of Devendra Banhart and Bill Callahan and her records released by revered indie record label Chapter Music, creating “the kind of cult psychedelic-folk following afforded to enigmatic musicians like Karen Dalton and Michael Hurley” (Indyweek.com). Popmatters.com wrote that “Kath Bloom’s voice can be as sublime as it was two decades ago; it wavers with the same mix of uncertainty and peacefulness” and Pitchfork.com called her “a supremely intuitive singer and songwriter, precise yet vulnerable in her phrasing and imagery.”
