Thanks for your response, I think that enrcouaging students to discuss their own experiences is definitely something I want to develop more in the future.Initially I fell into the trap of spending too much time explaining material, and not leaving enough space for discussion but I’ve realised that the best way of explaining material is getting students to relate it to their own experiences anyway. That way the theory can be both engaged with and explained at the same time, and it’s the students who effectively do the explaining for themselves.I do make sure to try to get students to discuss how the theory we’re discussing relates to their own lives, and I’ve definitely found that it helps students to both grasp the material and get involved with the class more enthusiastically. I still want to develop it further though and your comment has made me think a lot about how to introduce ideas about the personal being political and use that as a way of getting students to think about how theory relates to them.Thank you
